{"id":14,"date":"2023-07-12T16:58:17","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T16:58:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johncameron.thedev.ca\/?p=14"},"modified":"2023-07-20T15:24:12","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T22:24:12","slug":"gannet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johncameron.thedev.ca\/index.php\/2023\/07\/12\/gannet\/","title":{"rendered":"Gannet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Northern Gannets gather at on Cape St. Mary&#8217;s Ecological Reserve (a two hour drive from St. John&#8217;s Newfoundland). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were lucky to have a clear, bright day to watch thousands of gannets gather and nest on windy &#8216;Bird Rock&#8217;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I was lucky to have a 300 mm f 2.8 lens on an extremely fast camera body to capture these images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gannets could take off and land into the wind with precision, simply tilting the angle of their wings and lifting or lowering vertically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also had the chance to see the gannets plunge-dive for fish. They began about 30 metres in the air then dove head-first, knifing into the ocean at 100 kilometres per hour.
