{"id":269,"date":"2023-07-17T11:47:29","date_gmt":"2023-07-17T18:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johncameron.thedev.ca\/?p=269"},"modified":"2023-07-20T15:42:05","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T22:42:05","slug":"idaho-peak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/johncameron.thedev.ca\/index.php\/2023\/07\/17\/idaho-peak\/","title":{"rendered":"Idaho Peak"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After a challenging (steep, very narrow, huge drop-off, twisty, rough) 12.5&nbsp;kilometer drive from Sandon, BC&#8230; there are two breathtaking trails to the top of Idaho Peak. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The photo above is approximately one-quarter of the 360\u00ba view at the top (from the former forestry lookout). Each part of the 360\u00ba view is equally stunning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you look closely you can see a trail on the lower right side of the image. This is the final part of our route along the ridge to the summit. Look even closer (at the bright green patch in the center of the image) and you might see the trail cut across and disappear into the trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ground was frozen on September 24th; there\u2019s some snow around and the path is very narrow in spots. One slip and you\u2019d be down with the black bears and the grizzly that were seen below\u2014one&nbsp;half hour earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We saw two hang gliders launch from the peak around this time during our&nbsp;hike. And ten minutes later, met a man heading back down from the summit to his truck. He told us his buddies\u2014the hang gliders\u2014needed no further assistance from him as they would be landing&nbsp;back home in &#8216;downtown&#8217; New Denver.
